Huit Ans

8 Years, a bottle of wine, homemade (or if you're from Door County WI, Ho-made) kettle corn, and Julie & Julia in the comfort of our own home. I figured a blog post was only appropriate. I cannot express my gratefulness to be married to my best match on the planet.

Our own Christmas Miracle

I have much to blog about in the month of December (including Elyse's 1st birthday) but I had to take a quick moment to tell you of the best gift I could have gotten for Christmas.

Two nights ago the children found their gift stockings under the tree from their Grandpa Doug and Lolo. They each got gift cards and a chocolate Santa and because we made the mistake of putting them out early--we let them 'open' them. The kids were overjoyed with the thought of using their gift cards and asked if they could have their chocolate before bed. Though I wasn't too smart in putting out their gifts early, I did know they should not be eating a huge piece of chocolate before bed. I told them they could have one bite (not wanting to dampen their Christmas joy). I asked Henry to bring his to me so I could make sure it did not have any nuts. He assured me it was all milk chocolate (I must have been very tired because I just took his word for it), took a bite, and obediently put it up out of Elyse's reach. And that was that. They went to bed happy as can be.

Yesterday morning at snack time I told them they could finish up their chocolate if they wanted. Ava suggested I have a bite of Elyse's and I agreed (who can pass up chocolate anyway?). I took one bite and spit it out. It was FILLED with peanut butter! Basically it was a Santa shaped Reese's peanut butter cup. I demanded Henry show me his and low and behold it was the same. I was SHOCKED. Henry has had a positive allergy test to peanuts since he was 3. Though the allergist has told me that you can have the allergic antibody and not have a reaction. Needless to say Henry polished off the chocolate without a problem (or a reaction). He, in fact, is NOT allergic to peanuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not be more relieved especially as we prepare for him to enter first grade next fall. Hallelujah! It's our own Christmas miracle.

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes...

Elyse is changing by leaps and bounds (not quite literally yet) but really it is amazing. She started crawling (officially--not just the army crawl) the day before Thanksgiving and is now crawling everywhere in a very speedy way. She's got such great form that she reminds me of a dolly when she gets around.

She has also discovered the joy of standing up and pulls herself up on anything--even just a wall. She is having such a great time reaching new things!

She got her right top front tooth the day before Thanksgiving too and another one (on the bottom) broke through today.

Elyse weaned herself completely last week--which happened sooner than I'd hoped though I am eternally grateful that nursing was finally successful (no allergies, etc.) after 3 babies.

Oh, and her first word was Dada, but she also now says mama too! She understands ALOT and is quick to stop if we indicate 'no' with our words or actions.

We love her dearly and Henry and Ava's love for her hasn't waned since the day she was born. How grateful we are...
