I have much to blog about in the month of December (including Elyse's 1st birthday) but I had to take a quick moment to tell you of the best gift I could have gotten for Christmas.
Two nights ago the children found their gift stockings under the tree from their Grandpa Doug and Lolo. They each got gift cards and a chocolate Santa and because we made the mistake of putting them out early--we let them 'open' them. The kids were overjoyed with the thought of using their gift cards and asked if they could have their chocolate before bed. Though I wasn't too smart in putting out their gifts early, I
did know they should not be eating a huge piece of chocolate before bed. I told them they could have one bite (not wanting to dampen their Christmas joy). I asked Henry to bring his to me so I could make sure it did not have any nuts. He assured me it was all milk chocolate (I must have been very tired because I just took his word for it), took a bite, and obediently put it up out of Elyse's reach. And that was that. They went to bed happy as can be.
Yesterday morning at snack time I told them they could finish up their chocolate if they wanted. Ava suggested I have a bite of Elyse's and I agreed (who can pass up chocolate anyway?). I took one bite and spit it out. It was FILLED with peanut butter! Basically it was a Santa shaped Reese's peanut butter cup. I demanded Henry show me his and low and behold it was the same. I was SHOCKED. Henry has had a positive allergy test to peanuts since he was 3. Though the allergist
has told me that you can have the allergic antibody and not have a reaction. Needless to say Henry polished off the chocolate without a problem (or a reaction). He, in fact, is NOT allergic to peanuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not be more relieved especially as we prepare for him to enter first grade next fall. Hallelujah! It's our own Christmas miracle.
